About

ShannonKellyMy name is Shannon Kelly. I started this blog to engage as many people as possible into an important conversation about Document Accessibility, and PDF Documents Accessibility specifically.

I serve a lead role for global Accessibility Solutions for Actuate supporting both the North American and International sales teams and clients. For more than a decade, I have specialized in digital accessibility with a focus on PDF documents. I am well versed in legislation and regulatory standards such as US Federal Government’s Sections 508 and 503 of the Rehabilitation Act, Section 255 of the Telecommunications Act, Title II and Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and the technical and functional performance criteria of the WC3’s (World Wide Web Consortium) WCAG 2.0 (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines). I have lead, participated in and developed many accepted and utilized industry best practices for accessible and usable digital content, and have expertise in the standards for accessible document creation and legacy document conversion to accessible PDF formats. My areas of focus have primarily been on higher education and healthcare insurance industries and the US Federal government, including the Department of Commerce, Department of the Treasury, Internal Revenue Service, Health and Human Services, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, Social Security Administration, and Department of Defence.
